War

War, and by extension, combat, is a large part of Invasion3042's gameplay. Some of the game's most fun components are a direct result of war operations waged by neighbouring factions all over the galaxy. However, war is not everyone's cup of tea - some players are content to play the game in peace, although a war can be inevitable at times for any faction.

Prelude to War

In order for any actual fighting between two factions can take place, a state of war must exist between them. A declaration of war does not need to be reciprocated to enable attacks, but in order for one faction to attack another, their diplomatic stance towards the target must be at war. If your faction is neutral or allied to another faction, you may not launch attacks upon them, even if you really want to!

Only the faction leader or the second-in-command can change diplomatic stances for a faction, thus, they are the only two players in a faction who can declare war. Declaring war, as one of these figureheads, is as easy as clicking the appropriately marked button in red in the Politics tab, with the faction you want to declare war upon the selected faction from the drop-down menu above the buttons.

It is advised that you be certain that war is the course of action you and your faction want to take before declaring upon another faction!

Once war is declared, your faction can then attack your new enemy.

Military Operations

There are a wide variety of military operations a faction can conduct against an opponent. These range from reconnaissance missions, which gather intelligence about the enemy, to raids, where your empire loots materials or otherwise damages the opponent's empire, to all-out invasions, where the enemy's sector hangs in the balance, and even entire planets can change hands.

Each type of operation will be briefly covered here. It is recommended to read each operation's separate article for more information.

Recons

A recon mission serves a single purpose - it determines the BV of the enemy forces in the sector you targetted. This type of operation only requires one battle to be fought in the Landing Zone, and upon victory, the breakdown of the enemy force in that sector is displayed in the Important Game Messages box under the Info tab. Recons are very useful as a precursor to an invasion, as they allow a player to determine the exact amount of enemy forces present, and thus, they can deploy an appropriate force to attack the sector without worrying about committing too many forces to a given operation.

Raids

A raid allows you to steal material from an opposing empire, such as BPoints, RPoints, iCash and parts. Specialized raids, such as the Poison Pill raid, allow you to destroy the opposing empire's food stock, which is capable of causing them some problems at home. The Theft series of raids are good for stealing a specific kind of resource based on how much of the given resource the opposing empire produces every iDay. Raids are good for doing your enemy some damage, but without committing to a long siege as in an invasion.

Invasions

Invasions are where the most action occurs. While they may take a long time to resolve, often it is in these operations that large, epic battles take place. In an invasion, your force directly assaults the opposing empire's sector, either to capture it or burn it to the ground. Invasions are the only way for planets to change ownership, as when the original owner loses all their sectors upon a planet and another faction places a sector down upon it, the new faction will assume control of the planet. Invasions are the meat and potatoes of fighting in Invasion3042, but require the most effort upon a faction's part to enable victory.
