From Invasion3042 Wiki
The Tyrant (TYT-69C) is a 100 ton custom Inner Sphere assault mech originally specific to the Taurian Concordat.
In 3050 a very specific brief was given to designers at Taurus Territorial Industries. After years staging operations against the Clans, as well as engaging rogue Inner Sphere mercenary units, field commanders were called together by Protector Calderon to give assessments of the mechs being fielded by the Concordat's battlegroups. Many were satisfied with the current forces however when pressed admitted that there was a role for a dedicated fire support mech that could lay down heavy long ranged fire while other units closed with and killed the enemy. The Tyrant concept had been born. Designers looked to other successful designs such as the Marauder 4S and Vanquisher 2A for inspiration, the Marauder had excellent field survivability and durability with its two Magna-Firestar Extended Range PPCs and the added punch of a Thunderfist Heavy Gauss Rifle however it was costly to purchase and maintain. The ER-PPCs were however retained as the primary weapon systems as within the Concordat they were still the benchmark in mech killing weapon systems. Jumpjets were deemed surplus to requirements on a design that was to serve purely as a mobile firebase and the engine was downgraded to a Vlar 300 Fusion to save on maintainence costs and improve survivability. To replace the expensive Heavy Gauss Rifle a slightly cheaper and moreconsistent and readily available M-7 Gauss Rifle was installed, the additional space allowing a Series 5 Targeting Computer already field-tested on the Minotaur to be installed in the opposite torso and hardwired into all the weapon systems. The first attempts did experiment with a Light Gauss Rifle however the lower damage output was not acceptable in trials and the range advantage could be carried by the Vanquishers that commanders were so fond of. As an afterthought two Taurian produced Starflash medium pulse lasers were installed to provide accurate close range damage should the mech start to become over-run. An interesting note is the communications suite on the mech that allows comms to be achieved with the small special forces section level radios, enabling the pilot to use up to the second intelligence to pin point his opponents movements. As a core assault platform, the Tyrant has few equals within the Inner Sphere. It is capable of holding the heart of a Taurian defense, or carrying the line in an inexorable assault. Its slow, thunderous footsteps are matched only by the deafening static and sonic booms of its heavy weaponry.
[edit] Description
The Tyrant varies somewhat from its blurb, with neither pulse lasers nor C3 system. However, the twin ER-PPCs and the Gauss Rifle give fearsome long-range firepower that few Inner Sphere mechs can match, although it is easily outclassed by many clan designs. The Tyrant has 20% of its weight dedicated to armour, ensuring it has sufficient protection to stay in the field and support for as long as possible.
[edit] Combat record
113 Tyrants have seen service, with 4 surviving. The design has been responsible for 256 kills (550,204 BV).
