Research
From Invasion3042 Wiki
Research is the primary means by which new technologies and capabilities are acquired. Research is done by gaining Research Points through research facilities, Pirate, Invasion or War Points then choosing technologies to research from the lists in the Research tab. The Clans and Inner Sphere have different technologies available to them.

[edit] Overview
Research has several important pieces. It is permanent- once you have researched something, your empire cannot lose this information. In addition, research is not transferable. You cannot send research points to other players, nor can you give completed research to other players. You can, however, give blueprints of some kinds of research to other players.
There are two major types of research. Before you can research specific buildings or components, you must first complete theoretical research. Once theoretical research is complete, it will open up a number of specific items that can be researched.
This can be difficult to understand, so here is an explanation. Imagine cars were a part of Invasion3042. Each level of theoretical research would open up a better type of car. Level one might grant economy cars, level two might be pickup trucks, while level ten would be sports cars. When a player researched level one of theoretical research, a number of specific cars could then be researched, like a Honda Accord or Volkswagon Jetta. A player could then research the Honda Accord, and then begin producing the Honda Accord. Specific research does not need to be completed in order to move to the next level of theoretical research.
There are several branches of research. Each has ten levels of theoretical research, and many specific items under each level of theory.
[edit] Empire Specific
Empire Specific research is unique in that it only helps the empire doing the research- no blueprints of empire specific research can be made. This branch of research includes all of the buildings that an empire needs to grow and expand production. A full list of buildings can be found on the buildings page.
[edit] Energy Weapons
This includes all energy weapons like Lasers and PPC's, as well as the Laser AMS.
[edit] Ballistic Weapons
This includes all ballistic weapons, like Gauss Rifles, Machine Guns, and Autocannons. This also includes all of the ammunition for these weapons, and typically costs much less to research than the weapons themselves.
[edit] Missile Weapons
This includes all missile weapons, like long range missiles, short range missiles, and medium range missiles. Also included are the NARC beacon, Arrow IV, land mines, APOD, and similar things that do not fit neatly into any category. Like ballistic weapons, all of the ammunition for these weapons is included.
[edit] Military Electronics
This includes a number of important components. Included are vehicle electronics, Mech life support systems, cockpits, communication suites, targeting computers and systems, Battle Armor Electronics suites, and other similar parts.
[edit] Unit Structural Principles
This includes mech and vehicle structure, actuators, myomers, armor, internal structure, heat sinks, and similar components.
[edit] Mech Movement Principles
Each level of theoretical research corresponds to one of the tonnages of mech movement. Level one corresponds to 10 ton movement, level two to 20 ton movement, and so on. This also includes battle armor movement.
[edit] Vehicle Movement Principles
This includes all of the tracked, wheeled, and hover movements necessary for tanks.
[edit] Engines
This section includes all of the engines for all of the units- ICE, Standard Fusion, Light or XL, and BA power cells.
[edit] Tank Designs
Though often very expensive, tank designs allow empires to produce tanks and tank blueprints. Since Comstar does not currently sell Blueprints for tanks, all tanks must be researched before they can be produced.
Battle armor is included in this section of research.
[edit] Battlemech Designs
This is one of the most expensive areas of research. Researching a Battlemech takes hundreds of millions of research points. Even for the largest empires, this is an enormous undertaking, taking many years to complete.
There is one large advantage- empires can research mechs that would not normally be available to them, particularly those which are specific one House or Clan.
[edit] Combat Related
This section does not yet serve any function- there is no specific research at any level.
