From Invasion3042 Wiki
The Retribution RET-TC-777C is a 75 ton Inner Sphere custom heavy mech originally specific to the Taurian Concordat.
In the fall of 3046 the Taurian Defense Forces identified the need fo ra new and improved domestic medium tonnage battlemech. Specifications for a high quality yet easily mass-produced garrison defender were delivered to every 'mech producer in the TC. Vandenberg Mechanized Industries lengthy experience with the highly successful Griffin chassis proved ideal and by late 3048 Project Retribution's first prototype underwent field trials. Three essential criteria needed to be met as defined by the Taurian Defense Forces: cost efficiency for easy replacement, enough durability to provide suffiency in numbers and the ability to engage targets at expected Clan range. The first demand, cost effiency, was met through the use of standardized chassis components readily available through the Taurian Concordat. Durability was achieved by restricting the Retribution to a maximum speed of 64.8 km/h, which allowed 11 tons of standard armor to be liberally applied. Though the Retribution's speed is unsuitable for the standard medium tonnage Hunter-Killer profile, it is more than capable of meeting its intended garrison and offensive linebacker mission profiles. The most important requirement, the ability to meet standard Clan engagement range, was accomplished through the adoption of an industrially modifed (to ER specifications) Donal PPC produced by Sterope Defense Industries. An appropriate powerplant was a difficult problem for VMI. Fusion powerplanets produced locally were either too small or too large to accomodate the specific needs of the mech. Eventually a novel solutionwas found in the form of the ubiquitous 200 Nissan Fusion. So many of these dependable powerplants are available on the open market that a large stockpile has been accumulated and modified. Enough powerplants have been procured to last at least forty years of full scale production. A Neil-9000a communications system, among the Concordat's most high-tech communications solutions, was paired with an Octagon Tartrac targeting computer, giving the Retribution the ability to utilize its twin ER-PPC's at range with frightening accuracy. Functionally, the RET-TC-777 Retribution is designed to be a highly effective garrison mech. Its secondary function is offensive fire support in numbers, where its twin ER PPCs are expected to wear down the opposition as heavier friendly units move in for the kill.
[edit] Description
Despite claiming to be a medium mech and mount ER-PPCs, the Retribution actually is a 75 ton mech mounting standard PPCs in the arms. With a torso-mounted Gauss Rifle and Targeting computer, it is designed for long-range firepower and durability, mounting more armour than most mechs in its class. The main benefit of the Retribution's design, and perhaps the most overlooked, is the 'mechs incredibly low cost. Lances of Retributions can be assembled in the fraction of the time it would take to build a larger 'mech such as the Tyrant, while fielding roughly the same firepower.
[edit] Combat record
281 Retributions have seen service, of which 106 remain standing. The design has been the death of 520 units (1,059,275 BV).
[edit] Production
The Retribution is a custom mech, and as such cannot be produced. Nor can it be bought. The design will be removed in mid-March 2009.
