Mechwarriors pilot Battlemechs (see BattleMech). They are the most elite warriors in the Inner Sphere and Clans. They often accrue many honors and positions of influence. Military leaders are generally promoted from their ranks.

In the Clans, the eugenics programs have led to mechwarriors with incredible reflexes and intelligence.

In the game, the only representation of a mechwarrior is the skills of a BattleMech, which are represented in a piloting/gunnery skill format. They may also be named when the Battlemech is commissioned.

[edit] Battlemech Skills

A unit's skill rating is displayed as two numbers: the first number represents the units piloting ability, while the second number represents the gunnery skill of the unit.

Lower skills are better, as they result in lower "to hit" rolls. Thus, a unit with the skill of 3/2 (pilot/gunnery) is better than one with the skill of 5/4.

Piloting skill affects rolls for staying upright, which may be triggered when a mech takes more than 20 damage in one fire phase, or when a 'mech enters or exits a building. They also affect your "to-hit" for physical attacks like punching, kicking, charging, DFA, etc. A piloting roll is also made when a Battlemech shuts down due to overheating, adding further to the dangers of uncontrolled heat buildup.

Gunnery affects your "to-hit" roll for weapons. A lower to-hit number means you have a better probability of striking your target and dealing damage to it.

Both piloting and gunnery skills increase the battle value of your unit. If you train your unit below the threshold of 5/4, its battle value will increase as well. However, it is wise to not train your units' skills so low that they cannot be used in combat due to their high BV.

[edit] Tanks and Battle Armor

Battle Armor only have a gunnery skill, as there is no need for them to have a piloting skill. Their gunnery skill works the same as for mechs.

Tanks(see tank) have a driving and gunnery skill. The gunnery works the same as for the Battle Armor and Battlemechs.
