Connecting to chat
There are several ways to connect to the chat. The simplest way is via the Invasion3042 chat client, but you can also use standalone clients such as mIRC or xChat.
Invasion3042 chat client
The simplest way to connect to the chat is through the Invasion 3042 java applet. You will need to have a recent version of Java installed, but if you do not it should tell you and take you to a download site. This java client will automatically connect you to the main game channel. Enter text in the white bar at the bottom and hit enter to send it to channel. The bar at the right lists all people in the channel - if you wish to send a private message to someone, then double click their name and type in the window that opens. The channels (chat rooms) you are in are listed at the bottom of the window next to the "Public" label. Private chats are listed by the "Private" label, as is the server status window (just ignore this). The chat label will show in red if someone speaks while you are looking at a different chat. You can change your name (you will automatically join as InvGuest) by using the box in the bottom right of the window.
You can find a link to the chat client on the Invasion 3042 website, or click here.
AfterNET java chat
AfterNET, who run the network the Invasion3042 chatrooms use, have their own java chat client which can be found on their website - there is a link at the top right of the main window. Choose a nickname, set the channel to #invasion3042 and click continue. The chat will open in a new window, but is otherwise exactly the same as the Invasion chat applet.
Standalone IRC clients
There are several standalone chat clients you can use, among them mIRC and xchat. Instructions on how to set these up can be found on their pages. If you already have an IRC client set up, then these are the settings you need to get to Invasion chat:
