The Crimson Blade (CB-02) is an 85 ton custom clan assault mech, originally specific to Clan Widowmaker.

Late in the spring of 3055, the newly reformed Clan Widowmaker faced a dilemma. Despite their successes constructing smaller, better-known mechs in small numbers, the Widowmakers were still incapable of mass-producing heavier, yet inexpensive mechs for their touman. Driven to find a solution in as little time as possible, members of the Widowmaker's scientist caste turned to a battered yet serviceable copy of an older Brimstone, a prime mech used by the Cult of the Blood Moon. Using another salvaged and reverse engineered Cult mech, the Leatherface, as inspiration, the scientists reduced the mech's weight by 15 tons, removed the targeting computer and added an Endo Steel frame, with no reduction in weaponry. This prototype was known only as the Crimson Blade, due to its standard crimson red paint scheme and ability to cleave through an opponent with startling ease. Although the Crimson Blade's accuracy is inferior in comparison to its larger parent design, it can be produced for only a fraction of the cost, and can be bidded into battles that larger mechs could not.

The Crimson Blade is a very effective mech, with an all-pulse laser loadout of five (C) Large Pulse Laser. While slow, a single volley can be devastating, and the Blade has enough heatsinks to make continuous fire more or less inconsequential. Its thin rear armor and inability to fire into its rear arc forces Crimson Blade pilots to be very cautious that they do not allow an enemy to get behind the machine, or the Crimson Blade can end up sustaining damage that may change the balance of battle.
This 'mech was designed with two of Cult's machines in mind: the Brimstone and Leatherface. The Crimson Blade is basically the middleweight between these other two 'mechs, going so far as sharing even the same mission parameters. Existing strictly after Comstar's 'mech market was removed, the Crimson Blade was designed to be very easy to produce, and formed the bulk of the Widowmaker's touman.
