[edit] Blurb

Today's standard autocannon (identified as AC in shorthand) is functionally identical to the models used as far back as the days of the Terran Alliance. Designed to cope with improvements in armor technologies of the day, these weapons maintained their destructive edge through more than 800 years of battlefield evolution. Even so, their time was nearing its end when the newer Ultra and LB-X autocannon classes emerged. In fact, among the Clans these weapons have apparently ceased to exist. (excerpt taken from the Classic Battletech TechManual, See "http://www.fanpro.com/cms/fp/" for more info.) (Heat 7, Damage 20, Range short 1-3, Medium 4-6, Long 7-9, 5 ammo per ton.)

[edit] General

Invented in 2500 by the Lyran Commonwealth, the Autocannon/20 (AC/20) has become a staple weapon throughout the Inner Sphere. Though surpassed by higher level technologies in modern times, the AC/20 continues to maintain steady use due to its reliable and heavy damage output and recently invented special munitions that add to the weapon's versatility.

[edit] Munitions

Standard Standard ammo has no bonuses or penalties and only uses 1 shot of ammo.

Precision Precision Ammo decreases the to-hit-roll of an attack with an AC/20 by 2. Using precision ammo uses 2 shots of ammo. While in Classic Battletech precision ammo applies only to the target's movement modifier, decreasing it by 2 to a minimum of 0, Invasion3042's precision effectively operates as a pulse laser and applies to the overall to-hit-roll.

Armor Piercing Armor Piercing Ammo has a +1 modifier to hit and uses 2 shots of ammo. A successful hit has a chance to land a critical hit on the target with a modifier of -1 against the roll for the critical hit, meaning that instead of the typical required 8 to get a critical hit it takes a 9 to get a critical with armor piercing ammo. Invasion3042's armor piercing ammo operates like Classic Battletech's.
